VOC reduction

Reduction of volatile organic compounds

Volatile organic compounds (VOCs), such as solvents, chlorinated or fluorinated hydrocarbons, mineral oil derivatives and many others, are found in the exhaust gas streams of many different production facilities and technical processes:

  • Paint and solvent processing industry
  • Chemical and petrochemical industry
  • Sewage treatment plants and pumping stations
  • Food industry
  • Pharmaceutical industry
  • Wood and paper industry
  • Remediation of contaminated sites using soil vapour extraction
  • Livestock farming and fattening facilities

The implementation of the 31st Federal Immission Control Ordinance (BImSchV) in accordance with the VOC Directive stipulates, amongst other things, that since 31 October 2007, businesses subject to emission controls must comply with all the requirements of the Ordinance and operate a suitable exhaust air purification system.

Depending on the specifications and relevance, limit values of 20, 50 or 100 mg C/m³ in the treated exhaust air stream must be consistently maintained through effective industrial exhaust air treatment.

evoran FOX-Technology offers a cost-effective and reliable method of exhaust air purification to ensure compliance with legal limits and the requirements of local authorities. The UV light irradiation used during exhaust air purification causes photo-oxidation of organic substances, thereby converting them and rendering them harmless (reference/link to UV photo-oxidation process). The evoran exhaust air purification process, for which a patent application has been filed, represents a particularly cost-effective and low-maintenance alternative to conventional air treatment methods.

Common organic pollutants that can be treated using the effective exhaust air purification system of evoran FOX Technology include:

  • Organic solvents (MEK, MIBK, isopropanol, hexane, BTEX, CHC, etc.)
  • Mineral oil derivatives (alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, alcohols, ketones, aldehydes, carboxylic acids, etc.)
  • Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylene (BTEX)
  • Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), phenols
  • Tar products (pyridines)
  • Nitrated hydrocarbons
  • Fluorochlorinated hydrocarbons (CFCs)
  • Endocrine disruptors (antibiotics, cytostatics, etc.)
